Travelers Rest calls itself the Gateway to the Foothills, and the name fits. The city sits at the northern end of the Swamp Rabbit Trail, with US 25 running north into the Blue Ridge and Paris Mountain and Caesars Head close by. Many properties here have real elevation changes, and some have long views toward the mountains. A custom pool design should take advantage of that instead of fighting it.
Designing for Slopes and Views
On a sloped Travelers Rest lot, the design decisions that matter most are where the pool sits relative to the house, how much of the grade is cut or built up, and which direction the water faces. We start with a site visit to look at grade, drainage, soil and access, then build a 3D design rendering that shows the pool, spa and surrounding finishes from the angles you will actually see them, including from inside the house.
Gunite construction is usually the best fit for foothills properties because the shell is formed on site. That makes it possible to build a pool into a hillside, add a raised spa that spills into the pool, or set a vanishing edge that looks out toward the view.
Permits in Travelers Rest
Inside city limits, building permits go through the City of Travelers Rest Building Department, which uses an online permitting system. The city notes that some projects may also need a Greenville County permit, and addresses outside city limits are permitted by the county. We confirm the right office for your address, prepare the plans and handle the application and inspections.
Design Elements We Often Recommend Here
- Raised or spillover spas that use the natural grade
- Vanishing edges where the view and the slope allow it
- Sun shelves positioned for afternoon sun
- Stacked stone water features that suit the foothills setting
- LED lighting for evenings outside
- Automatic safety covers
From neighborhoods near Furman University to acreage properties north toward the mountains, we design every pool around the property it sits on. Call (706) 705-7751 to schedule a free design consultation.
