Ball Ground is a small railroad town in northeast Cherokee County, set in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains. It was incorporated in 1883, its downtown is on the National Register as the Ball Ground Historic District, and it is home to Gibbs Gardens and the Ball Ground Botanical Gardens. The town has grown quickly, with its population up nearly 80 percent between 2010 and 2020, and many of the newer homes here have room for a backyard pool.
Permits and Septic in Ball Ground
Inside city limits, residential permits are issued by the City of Ball Ground Building Permitting and Inspections office at City Hall on Valley Street. On lots where sewer is not available nearby, a Cherokee County Health Department septic permit is required before the city issues a building permit, so the pool has to be placed with the septic system in mind. Addresses outside city limits are permitted by Cherokee County. We confirm which applies, coordinate the health department review and handle the application and inspections.
Building in the Foothills
Foothills lots often have grade changes, and that is where a custom gunite pool earns its keep. Because the shell is formed on site, it can be stepped into a slope, paired with a raised spa that spills into the pool, or set to take advantage of a view. On flatter lots, a fiberglass shell from the Tallman Pools collection offers a shorter build and a smooth, low-maintenance surface. You will see the pool on your property in a 3D design rendering before construction begins.
